Energy pyramids show the energy flow in a community. The different levels in the community show different groups of organisms. First are the producers that bring energy and have 100% of the energy, next are the primary consumers that eat the producers and have only 10% of the plants energy, then the secondary consumers eat the primary consumers and have only 1% of the plants energy, and there are tertiary consumers that eat the secondary consumers and have .1% of the plants energy. Since there is 100% energy at the first trophic level there would be .1% of the trophic level because every time you go up a level energy is lost. Energy is lost because it is transferred between trophic levels which means each time the energy is transferred each trophic level receives less energy than the level before it.
